Edited by Nicolas Lainez and Seb Rumsby and published by the Institute for Research into International Migration and Superdiversity (IRiS), School of Social Policy, University of Birmingham, this open-access collection brings together ethnographic research conducted across Vietnam, the United Kingdom, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Rather than viewing migration solely through the lens of economics, the authors examine how decisions to migrate are intertwined with aspirations for "the good life," family obligations, gendered expectations, legality, debt, and cultural identity.

The volume includes studies on:

•Family aspirations and vocational migration from Nghệ An to Germany

•Vietnamese parents in Hungary and the pursuit of a đàng hoàng life

•Irregular migration from Vietnam to the United Kingdom and the migration industry

•Heritage language, family, and identity among Vietnamese transnational families in the Czech Republic

As debates on migration continue to focus on borders, labor, and policy, this collection reminds us that migration is equally about hope, dignity, care, and the moral worlds that migrants and their families strive to create across borders.
