Our pilot initiative, the Hán-Nôm Research Hub, features a fully integrated mirror of Columbia University’s Hán-Nôm Sino-Vietnamese Textual Library, as well as a suite of digital tools for textual analysis, including automated OCR, a searchable dictionary platform, manuscript notation, and an interface with the MARKUS and IMMARKUS tools for sinological research.

Digital Tools

The heart of Digitizing Vietnam lies in the development of new digital and AI tools for cutting-edge research on the Humanities and Social Sciences. We welcome collaboration with other centers of digital or AI innovation, and invite scholars with projects of their own to partner with us in developing their own tools through Digitizing Vietnam. All tools listed here may also appear in thematically relevant research hubs.

The Image OCR Platform is a tool that allows users to upload images of text and convert them into machine-readable text. This tool is especially useful for researchers who need to transcribe text from images of historical documents.

The Hán-Nôm Dictionaries tool is a collection of dictionaries that provide definitions and explanations for Hán-Nôm characters. This tool is especially useful for researchers who need to look up the meanings of Hán-Nôm characters in historical texts.

The Kiều Tools is a collection of tools that allow users to analyze and explore the text of Nguyễn Du's Truyện Kiều. This tool is especially useful for researchers who need to analyze the text of Truyện Kiều in detail.
